The academic year at Acton Academy Davidson will run from September through June. Our first year may start later as we await final regulatory approvals for our space.
How long is your school year?
We believe that children learn best when working with peers who are younger and older than themselves. In addition to offering individualized curriculum, all ages of students work together in groups within each studio.
Will children be grouped by age?
It is our goal to grow into a campus offering studios for K-12 learners. At present, we offer a Sparks Studio for 5- to 7-year-olds. We plan to add additional studios in coming years, expanding the ages we are able to accommodate.
What grades do you offer?
We are right in the heart of Davidson at 241 Walnut Street. Our studio abuts Davidson United Methodist Church’s campus and we enjoy use of the Church’s parking, outdoor, and play facilities.
Where are you located?
We take our commitment seriously when we promise to deliver a transformative educational experience for families at Acton Academy Davidson. As a small school, we prioritize maintaining the resources necessary to keep this promise for each family that joins us. Although we are not currently equipped to serve young people with special learning needs, we are happy to discuss whether our program is a good fit for your learner. In our experience, as long as the learner is able to participate in self-directed learning and community building, they can succeed at Acton Academy Davidson.
What resources do you have for special needs?
At Acton Academy, we believe in the power of balance. Using the incredible, self-paced eLearning tools now available, we are able to provide the rigor needed for learning math, vocabulary, spelling, and grammar in under 2 hours each day, while freeing up the rest of the day for engaging project-based learning. The two are highly complementary.
Do we avoid excessive screen time with tech?
We are actively pursuing scholarship resources, including the North Carolina Opportunity Scholarship. We will begin accepting the Opportunity Scholarship in Fall 2027. If you need a scholarship, please let us know in your application. If you would like to contribute to our school’s scholarship fund, please also let us know. We are eager to share this opportunity with as many highly qualified applicants as possible.
Do you offer scholarships?
For the 2026-2027 school year, our annual tuition will be $15,000, paid monthly. Our first 10 founding families will receive a 15 percent tuition discount. Siblings receive an additional 10 percent discount. Our goal is to keep Acton Academy Davidson as affordable as possible to ensure that it remains accessible to families best suited to its unique approach to education. In addition to tuition, we charge a nonrefundable application fee of $100 and a one-time technology fee of $400 per learner.
How much is annual tuition?
Acton Academy Davidson is rooted in the belief that every person is a genius who has a unique talent and purpose meant to change the world. Although this belief aligns with some religious tenets, we are a secular school open to believers, searchers, and non-believers alike. We value and respect every individual’s freedom to hold and nurture their own beliefs and, therefore, leave the teaching of specific doctrine up to individual families, focusing instead on encouraging exploration and independent learning.
Is Acton a religious school?
Each family is unique. As described above, there are certain similarities among families who are the happiest and most successful at Acton. We encourage families to be intentional about their decision to apply. Please read “Courage to Grow,” by Laura Sandefer and reach out to us to schedule a time to meet.
Is Acton the right fit for our family?
Yes, the school is accredited through the International Association of Learner Driven Schools as part of the broader Acton Academy network.
Is Acton Academy Davidson accredited?
Acton Academy Davidson is part of the network of over 300+ Acton Academies around the world. We follow the same exact learning design (curriculum) and learning model that Jeff and Laura Sandefer helped create at the original Acton Academy campus over a decade ago.
